Rule Change: Open
Overview
On 29 February 2024, the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has made a draft determination for more preferable draft electricity and retail rules (draft rules) that create new arrangements for:
- Large customers to choose multiple energy service providers for their premises.
- CER (e.g. rooftop solar, batteries, electric vehicles) to be identified and managed separately from other ‘passive’ consumer loads (e.g. lights, fridges) in the energy market, and
- In-built measurement capability in technology, such as streetlights and EV chargers, to be used, which helps with better measurement of energy and unlocks the benefits of energy efficiency.
The draft determination and more preferable draft rule are in response to the AEMO rule change request submitted in May 2022.
